Visiting Vermont Privacy Policy
This here page here is where we tell you about what information we collect from visitors to Visiting Vermont and what we do with that information. The short answer is we don't collect anything to identify individual visitor unless they volunteer information by joining our mailing list or signing up for our bulletin board or posting to our guestbook. And we won't share or sell that information to anyone.
The whole story is that this site is operated by them folks over to
Steam Power Design. The owner of Steam Power Design enjoys being let alone - he gets that from his family from up around West
Newbury. He assumes you'd prefer to be let be, so he tries to do everything he can to respect your privacy while using this site.
We have to collect some information from every visitor that visits our site just to make the site work. Most of what we collect is just computer stuff so our computer knows how to talk to your computer. Information like that doesn't tell us who you are. This is stuff like what kind of browser you're using and what operation system your computer uses. We also keep track of which pages visitors view, what website refered visitors to our site, and when they visit. We use that information to help us keep our site working and to make sure we're presenting interesting material. We may also use that information from all our visitors - the boys at UVM would say 'aggregate visitor information' - to tell advertisers and potential advertisers how many people we get stopping by our site. Of course, if we don't know who you are, they can't tell who you are from that information either.
Many of the links on our site take you to other sites; some of our links are even paid advertisements and those take you to sites where someone wants to sell you something. They may put what they call a 'cookie' - the computer kind, not the eating kind - on your computer to remind them that you got to their site from our site. No need to worry, cookies are perfectly safe - they can't do any harm to your computing machine. You should check the privacy policy for any site you visit to see what information they collect. We work hard to make sure we deal only with advertisers that run a tight ship. If you have trouble with any of our advertisers, please let us know right away.
If you do volunteer any information while visiting our site, we promise to do our very best to keep that information confidential.
There are a few people we may have to share some information with - like people we hire to build or maintain the website - but
we're strict about limiting who sees what, and anyone who works with us agrees they will not use your information for anything
other than to improve our site. The one exception to our rule about keeping your information private is that we will cooperate
with appropriate law enforcement officials. That's so rare that we've never seen it happen, and they most likely would have to
serve us with a warrant or subpoena.
Steam Power Design may from time to time need to update or change this policy. Since we don't know who you are, the only way we can tell you that our policy has changed is to post the changes on this page. To use our site, you have to agree that such posting is sufficient notice.
